I’m an award-winning digital media journalist and communications specialist: I use print and digital media to share stories, ideas, and information with mass audiences. Specifically, I work with news, data, code, and visuals to create engaging web-first stories about real people.

Specific arenas:

  • Interactive content, news apps, and data visualization
  • Print and multimedia journalism
  • Web producing and content management

Most recently, I was a senior newsroom developer at The Boston Globe. Before that I was the data visualization reporter at Eater, and a news applications fellow at ProPublica. Prior to the fellowship, I worked as an intern and then content and homepage producer at the Chicago Tribune.

After studying journalism in undergrad I earned a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. I studied Interactive Publishing–that’s journalism, but with an emphasis on producing it for the Web. This includes digital and multimedia reporting, content management, Web production, JavaScript storytelling, audience insight and more.

My goal is to help organizations that value new media and digital storytelling techniques to better communicate with their audiences through immersive story experiences.

Freelance services:

I am also available for freelance storytelling projects for news, educational, cultural, or corporate organizations. I work with these organizations to build interactive, visual, and data-driven content. I’m also available for small-scale web development projects for portfolios, blogs, small events, and small businesses, especially ones interested in custom WordPress themes.

  • Freelance story-driven data viz and interactive content: I design projects to be mobile-friendly and compatible across major browsers and devices.
  • Custom WordPress themes: I design responsive themes that are fully integrated with the WordPress content management system.
